Clewiston Bus Tour:

Have you ever been curious about sugar harvesting and processing? It all happens not far from Bonita Springs in Clewiston Florida.

Join us for a fascinating look at what goes on before the sugar reaches your table.
Our private bus tour to Clewiston will leave from the Liles Hotel on Thursday, March 28, 2019.

A bus will pick us up at 7:45 AM and drive to Clewiston for an introduction to sugarcane harvesting, processing and packaging. We'll also learn about other area crops like corn, celery, green beans.

Before the deadly hurricanes of 1926 and 1928 devastated this part of Florida, the area was primarily home to small farms raising a variety of vegetables. Sugar growing began in earnest in the early 1930s.

If your interest is more environmental than agricultural, bring your questions.
We will learn about the good, and ugly of Lake Okeechobee waters and why it is so important to our area.

Clewiston, historically known as America's Sweetest Town, was incorporated in 1925 and is centrally located in south Florida about 60 miles east of Fort Myers. Through more than a half-century of growth, Clewiston has kept its charm and beauty. It is the Gateway to Lake Okeechobee.

The tour also includes a visit to the Clewiston Museum which has a great Florida fossil collection, displays about their WWII Airfare Base, and the history of Clewiston and Hendry County. A southern lunch is included at a local restaurant.

Tour includes bus transportation from Bonita Springs, lunch, and tours. The bus is equipped with AC, WiFi, outlets, restroom, and light refreshments. We recommend bringing a light jacket and wearing closed-toed shoes.
